Watermelon Slushy

I'm a fan of all things watermelon. Cubed, sliced, in a salad, I'll eat it just about any way that I can get it. But after a while, you get tired of eating the same things the same way over and over again. Ya, know? So I wanted to find a way to eat it that was completely different than what I was used to. And I've been REALLY into making soda syrups lately and so I figured there had to be a way to make this fruit into a refreshing drink, too!

So I froze it, threw it into a blender with some other stuff and... BOOM. Watermelon Slushy. Cool. Refreshing. Non-alcoholic. (Unless you want it to have a little punch 😉)

Here's what you're gonna need to make a watermelon slushy:

Tools

  • Cup or Glass

  • Citrus Reamer

  • Blender

  • Knife

  • Straw

Techniques

  • Measure

  • Cut/Cube

  • Blend

Ingredients

  • 2 cups watermelon, frozen

  • 2 cups watermelon juice

  • 1/2 lime, juiced

Prep

  1. Cube your watermelon. Start by taking your melon and cutting it in half. Then cut it in half again. Now, cut your quartered watermelon into slices, remove the rind and cut it into 1-inch cubes. Place your cubes on a cookie sheet and stick it in the freezer until it is rock solid.

  2. If you don’t use all of the watermelon for this recipe, remove what you don’t use from the cookie sheet and store it in a freezer bag for future use!

Process

  1. Once your fruit is frozen solid, it’s time to blend it up into a seriously refreshing drink!

  2. Place about 2 cups of your frozen watermelon into your blender with 2 cups of watermelon juice or water.

  3. Juice half of a lime into the blender.

  4. Place the lid on the blender and blend until it is smooth.

  5. Pour into a glass and enjoy with a straw!

FAQs

I can’t find watermelon juice in my grocery store, is there a substitute?

Admittedly, watermelon juice was an absolute surprise find one day at Target. I found it with the Simply Juices. But, if you can’t find it, you can either use water OR hold some watermelon from the freezer. Just throw the watermelon in the blender first, wizz it up and you should be good to go! If you still need some more liquid after that, just add a little water to get the blender going.
